About Me

Welcome! My name is Lyssa. I write here about life with my sweet family, about dreams, about hopes and struggles, and about my journey as a home-schooling musician-mama.

The only label I fully, forever claim is follower of the One who blends time and eternity, the meeting of deity and humanity. Some things, like God, never change. But even God isn't all figured out. The older I grow, the more I realize how much I don't know. Life is too short to keep yourself in a tiny box.

I love nature, art, music, words, and beauty. I strive to learn from my mistakes instead of letting them tear me down. The classical guitar has been my muse for the past eighteen years, and I'm currently having a blast learning how to play the mandolin! I am a self-employed music teacher. Plus, there's a list of life goals that I'm always hoping to achieve!

People fascinate me. Life is astonishing always.

Sometimes I take myself too seriously. Chris changes that : )

Chris and I were married in June of 2010. Chris is also a musician, and despite being an introvert, has been on the stage singing, dancing, acting, and performing since he was a toddler. He is my solid ground, the calm to balance my craziness. He enjoys nature, researching history and genealogies, music, and inventing. We're now approaching a decade since I invited him to come eat lunch with my friends during our first week of freshman year in college ;-)

We welcomed our baby girl, Harmony Emelia, into our lives in 2012! Harmony was born at home a week after our second anniversary. She truly brings music to our lives with her joyful energy, singing, boundless curiosity, and non-stop talking.

Her nicknames are Tiny and The Mininsky. At two years old, her favorite things are My Little Pony, playing outside, going on nature walks, spending time with her family (especially grandpa!), the Magic Schoolbus book series and television show, using her imagination, cooking with mama, reading books, drawing pictures, playing in the bath, and singing/dancing along to YouTube videos.

Due to my positive experience with home-schooling (my husband also enjoyed being home-schooled during several years of elementary school) we have decided to home-school Harmony and any other children we have in the future. We don't have all the answers, but we do know that we love learning and hope to encourage that same passion in our daughter! Over the next few years we're excited to explore different options for curriculum, method, and opportunities that are available for home-schoolers.

You have such a kind, soft, and gentle spirit Lyssa. Every time I hear you mention "Harmony" I just sigh... it's such a beautiful name (and she certainly lives up to it.

Thanks so much for sharing and for joining my #Blirthdaybash!

Your daughter looks so sweet!
I love that you say life is too short to keep yourself in a tiny box, that is so true! They say you should change your mind about something important every week, because there is so much we don't know, and as we get older we learn and grow. :)
